It is no secret that social media has severely grown over the past few years. This world wide phenomenon has not only impacted the new generation’s way of living but it has also impacted how society delivers or acquires their news.

With the growth of social media, has come a wave of challenges for the world of journalism. From the decline in newspapers to their transition from one way to two way communication, many changes have been made to adjust to today’s world. Journalists have found themselves engaging through apps like Twitter and Instagram in a far more advanced way than they expected to see themselves doing. Journalists have had to adapt to the growth of social media very fast and steadily. They have to keep themselves up to date with everything going on through social media to be the first to deliver a breaking news story.

Marlene Guzman (pictured below), an University of Houston Alumni, is now a journalist for the television network, Univision . As a reporter she is constantly posting her content on Instagram. She posts behind the scene pictures, shares her news stories on there, and she announces her upcoming stories for her followers. Her followers are able to engage with her through the comment section or by direct messaging her. Guzman’s feed gives the public an inside look into her job. Not only this but her audience is able to keep up with breaking news stories by the touch of a button. To check out her Instagram click here.

It is evident that journalists today are composed of hard work and dedication necessary to keep up with the continuous development of technology.
